From 6-8 June 2019, Helsinki (Finland) hosted the 2019 AFEMS Congress.
The Congress, at its 68th edition, was a great success: 115 guests joined the numerous AFEMS’ Institutional and Social events scheduled in the agenda.
The General Assembly, held on 7th June, once again showed a great participation: 82 delegates representing 52 Companies and Associations from 19 different European Countries.
During the General Assembly, the AFEMS activities of the past 12 months were reported and the action plan regarding the next 12 months was presented. The Chairmen of the Committees and the Secretariat presented the progress made on projects under their responsibility.
Several presentations were illustrated by outstanding Guest Speakers. From the hunting-related themes – as discussed by Paolo Fiocchi (Università Statale di Milano), Heli Siitari (Executive Director at Finnish Hunters’ Association) and Torbjörn Larsson (President of the European Federation for Hunting and Conservation) – to the more political ones – covered from the European perspective by Mauro Silvis (Secretary General of the IEACS) and from the US one by Richard Patterson (Executive Director of SAAMI). What is more, Mr Karl-Heinz Florenz, German MEP, talked about his 30-years experience in the European Parliament and his perceptions of the sector as Chair of the Biodiversity, Hunting and Countryside Intergroup.
The major event was also the stage for the election and presentation of the new AFEMS President, Mr Thierry Jacobs from FN Herstal, Belgium. Mr Torbjörn Lindskog was appointed Honorary President in charge of the external relations and maintaining the role as President of the WFSA.
The next AFEMS Congress will be held in June 2020, in Prague (Czech Republic).
